Business

In July 2000, we completed the £109 million secondary buy-out of Oxoid Group, based in the UK. Oxoid is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of microbiological diagnostic products. Oxoid’s products are used in clinical and industrial laboratories to identify bacteria and other organisms causing disease or spoilage. During our three-year ownership Oxoid achieved significant organic growth, primarily by continuing to launch new products to improve the speed and reliability of the process of identifying bacteria. In addition, production capacity was much expanded through the acquisition of a manufacturing plant in Adelaide, Australia and the construction of a new prepared media facility in Perth, Scotland.

Divestment

We completed the €270 million divestment of Oxoid Group to the NYSE listed company, Fisher Scientific International in 2004.
