French women’s fashion brand La Fée Maraboutée provides wholesale and retail products to a substantial international network.

At the time of our acquisition, in 2012, the company had more than 850 multi-brand retailers in France and a further 850 internationally. It also had a store network of 90 outlets including owned stores, affiliates and franchisees.

La Fée Maraboutée is positioned as a mid to high-end brand, appealing to women aged between 30 and 50 for formal and casual wear. The business has grown steadily in recent years, stemming principally from the development of an international wholesale business, and the roll-out of both owned and affiliates store networks in France.

Our investment

La Fée Maraboutée is a growth business with an excellent market position and the potential to further develop its retail, e-com, and international wholesale offering. We are backing a strong management team, including the company’s founder Jean-Pierre Braillard and chief executive Gaëlle Lelong.

The company has a resilient and diversified business model with strong profitability and cash generation that has enabled it to grow despite the economic downturn.

We have appointed seasoned retailer Georges Spitzer to the board as chairman. Georges, a former chief executive of luxury brand Givenchy and children’s clothing brand Du Pareil au même, brings expertise in areas such as brand building, retail network development and international development, which will help to accelerate the growth of the business.

We look to back the company’s roll-out and international expansion over the next phase of the business’ development.
